PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT: Solicitor persuaded elderly clients to leave him cash

A Brighton solicitor has been struck off for persuading elderly and vulnerable clients  to leave large legacies to him and his family in the wills he drafted for them, usually without telling them they should obtain independent advice. Jonathan Horner arranged GBP400,000 in legacies for himself before a colleague became suspicious and reported him to the regulator. He was also ordered to pay more than GBP56,000 in costs. Be aware that any professional responsible for the drafting of your Will should not be a beneficiary under that Will.
